HCG Manavata Cancer Centre, Nashik successfully performed Autologous Bone Marrow transplant for High Risk Neuroblastoma child, aged 4 years. A 4 year old boy was diagnosed with High Risk Neuroblastoma, a rare cancer that is difficult to cure. Neuroblastoma is a cancer that often develops in adrenal glands but can also develop in stomach, chest, neck, pelvis & bones. Children younger than 5 years are most commonly affected.
He was treated by Dr. Shruti Kate with 6 cycles of chemotherapy after which the disease was in remission. Autologous stem cell transplantation was planned as consolidation therapy for which peripheral blood stem cells were harvested and cryopreserved. He then received 2 more cycles of chemotherapy and was then taken for Autologous Stem Cell Transplant (BMT). Autologous BMT was done successfully, led by Dr. Priyatesh Dwivedi & his team and the patient was discharged. This is the first Autologous BMT for a Non-Hematological Cancer in HCG Manavata Cancer Centre and Nashik region.
Speaking about this successful procedure, Prof. Dr. Raj Nagarkar, MD, HCG Manavata Cancer Centre said, there are many indications of BMT in Solid Cancers as well. This is the first successful BMT for a Non-Hematological Cancer so we would be doing BMT for other solid cancers as well like Ewing’s Sarcoma, Wilm’s tumor, Breast Cancer, etc. We have a team of excellent & experienced doctors who take challenges and give back hope for a long life to patients.
