A sarcoma is a type of cancer that usually develops from certain tissues like, within the bone or muscle. Bone and soft tissue sarcomas are the main types. Soft tissue sarcomas can develop from soft tissues like fat, muscle, nerves, fibrous tissues, blood vessels, or deep skin tissues and be found in any part of the body. Most of them develop in the arms or the legs.
Most of the sarcomas begin in an arm or a leg. The most common symptom noticed at first is a lump that usually grows over a period of time. This lump is generally not painful, but in some cases, it hurts. In case the following symptoms appear, it’s advisable to visit a consultant for further examination:
Formation of new lumps anywhere on the body
Blood in stool
There are several risk factors that can make a person more likely to develop soft tissue sarcomas, some of which are known to affect the DNA of cells in the soft tissues.
If there are any signs or symptoms indicating the presence of a sarcoma, the doctor may ask for an Imaging test or a Biopsy.
The main treatments for soft tissue sarcoma inlude surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and targeted therapy. Once the sarcoma and the stage have been found out, the doctors shall suggest the best treatment options.
